Shalakya Tantra is a principal branch of Ayurveda handling the diseases and treatment of Netra (Eye), Karna (Ear), Nasa (Nose), Mukha (Throat), and Shira (Head). This branch is given prime importance among the eight branches of Ayurveda — Netra Roga Vigyan holds utmost importance, as loss of vision is one of the gravest outcomes a patient can face.
As the classics explain, “Sarvendriyanam Nayanam Pradhanam” — the eye is foremost among all the senses. This science uses a Shalaka (probe) extensively, which justifies the name Shalakya Tantra. We have a well-developed OPD with all necessary equipment and instruments, and we teach our students using the latest techniques so they can serve society in a better way.
Vision
- To successfully conduct clinical postings in OPD, along with camps and assessment of theoretical knowledge.
- To popularize Kriyakalpa treatments like Tarpan, Aaschotana, Anjana, and Bidalaka — specialties of Netra Roga — and Nasya, Gandusha, Dhoompana, and Karnapoorana, which form the basis of Karna, Nasa, and Mukha Roga.
Mission
- To provide the best possible patient care with utmost competence in Kriyakalpa procedures, surgical treatment, and para-surgical management.
- To spread awareness about cataract, glaucoma, myopia, and the most commonly occurring diseases of Shalakya Tantra.
